Menus within the Web Platform Healthsciences will automatically populate based on the user’s selection in the Additional Options section when a page is created. In the Additional Options menu, select Provide a Menu and then select the appropriate Parent link from the dropdown menu. The Web Platform Healthsciences will then automatically add your page into the menu hierarchy. To learn more about the Additional Options and how to enable the Provide a Menu link, please visit the Content Types page. Please note that you do not want to manually add in the menu hierarchy.

There are some instances where you may want to change the order that items appear in your menu or you may want to disable a page in the menu but have it still appear in the breadcrumbs. Below are the instructions on how to do this.

Adding Your Page(s) To the Navigation Menu

Removing or re-enabling pages from a menu will determine if the pages are visible in your menu navigation.

Step by Step Instructions 

  1. Log in to your site.
  2. Go to the desired page.             
    Note: The following content types cannot be added to the menu structure: Articles, Events, Person Pages.  Learn more about content types.
  3. Click Edit link.

  4. Expand the Menu Settings in the Additional Options section.

  5. Toggle the Provide a menu link.

  6. Select the Parent Link dropdown menu.
  7. Select the appropriate Parent page in the correct page structure location.

  8. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save.

Step by step instructions

  1. Log in to your site.
  2. Hover over the Structure button.
  3. Hover over the Menu button.
  4. Click Main Navigation.

  5. Find the desired page and click on the all directions arrow.
  6. Move the page to the desired location.
  7. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save

  1. Log in to your site.
  2. Hover over the Structure button.
  3. Hover over the Menu button.
  4. Click Main Navigation.

  5. Find the desired page and either select or unselect Enabled.
  6. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save.

Linking to an External Site in Your Navigation Menu

To link to a page that is not on your site

  1. Log in to your site.
  2. Hover over the Structure button.
  3. Hover over the Menu button.
  4. Click Main Navigation.

  5. Click + Add link.

  6. Add the name that you want to be visible in your navigation menu.
  7. Add the complete URL.
  8. Select the Parent Link dropdown menu and select the appropriate Parent page in the correct page structure location.   
  9. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save.
