New Enhancement: Automatic Image Captions from Media Library
Overview
To improve accessibility and the content editing experience, the Web Platform now automatically displays image captions stored in the Media Library on pages.
- When you add an image using the Image component or Text component, the platform will automatically pull the caption from the associated media item and display it beneath the image.
- If a caption is not entered in the Media Library, no caption will display.
- When using the Text component, editors can manually add or override a caption for a specific image instance without changing the caption stored in the Media Library.
Benefits
- Automatically displays captions: Use the Image component for images that require a caption without needing to manually add one each time.
- Consistent content: Captions are managed at the media level, ensuring the same caption is displayed wherever the image is used in supported components.
- Flexible when needed: If an image requires a different caption for a specific page or context, use the image in a Text component to add a custom caption without changing the caption stored in the Media Library.

What This Means for You
Captions are managed at the media level. If a media item has a caption, it will automatically appear every time that image is used in an Image component and Text component. Updating the caption on the media item will update it everywhere the image is displayed in those components.
Before changing a media caption, consider whether the new caption is appropriate for all instances where the image is used.
Need a Different Caption?
If you need a different caption for that specific page or context, you can override the default caption by editing it directly within the Text component.
This allows you to customize the caption for a single instance of the image without changing the caption stored on the media item or affecting how it appears elsewhere on the website.
